Abu Dhabi Education Council, Offices

Getting BIDS right

Provided sustainability input into a competition winning design for the Abu Dhabi Education Council’s new headquarters office in Abu Dhabi, which aimed to achieve a 5 Pearl rating, under Abu Dhabi’s Estidama scheme (equivalent to a BREEAM Outstanding Rating).

The design included the following passive measures:
> An over-sailing canopy providing shade to both buildings & amenity spaces
> Exposed thermal mass and passive adiabatic cooling from amenity water and earth coupled pre-cooled air supply.

In addition energy efficient measures included in the design proposals were:
> Areas of photovoltaic cells were proposed on the canopy to make the design a positive supplier of electricity.
> Low water use fittings in conjunction with water recycling, condensate and dew collection systems were proposed to achieve positive water generation from the scheme.
